What is SPF?

Sender Policy Framework

SPF is a DNS-based email authentication protocol that lets domain owners specify which mail servers are authorized to send email on behalf of their domain. It helps prevent spoofing and phishing attacks.

How it works

When a receiving mail server gets an email, it checks the sender's domain for an SPF record. The record lists authorized IP addresses and include mechanisms. If the sending server matches, the email passes SPF authentication.

Why it matters

Without SPF, anyone can send email pretending to be from your domain. SPF is one of three email authentication protocols (alongside DKIM and DMARC) that protect your domain reputation and improve deliverability.
